October 1-3, 2008
Overview:
Ontario’s Digital Economy Conference will focus on the transformation of Ontario’s economic, social and environmental future from the perspective of three themes. The conference will begin with a look at Ontario relative to other jurisdictions; study the use and impact of various creative applications; and consider how Ontario can best benefit from the use of technology in an expanding knowledge economy.
The key speakers are trailblazers in the digital economy who first recognized that the changing characteristics of information, computing, and communications are now the preeminent driver of economic growth, environmental development and social change. Workshop facilitators will provide an inside look at factors and issues that influence the digital economy.
Motivating e-business success stories, advances in health-related applications and the transformative power of technology will be examined, explained, and shared during this dynamic 3-day event.
Ontario’s Digital Economy Conference Highlights:
Three broad themes, Lay of the Land, Showcase of Innovative Applications and Future Visioning, will be explored through the lens of economic development, social & community development, and environmental development.
- Economic Development: capacity building; business expansion; and leveraging local partnerships to foster innovation.
- Social & Community development: quality of life; local access to services; cultural development
- Environmental development: reduced carbon emissions; green innovations; positive environmental impacts

Robert Bell, Co-Founder and Executive Director, the Intelligent Community Forum, NY
What is an intelligent community, and what is it’s impact at the local level, particularly in rural communities? In the broadband economy, adaptability outweighs legacy; skills and an e-literate citizenry are key to greater participation; and innovation – not location and creates a competitive advantage. |
